Washington/New Delhi Former US President Ronald Trump surprised everyone by calling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi his “friend” in recent statements. Although Trump had strongly criticized Modi and India in the recent past.

Talking to reporters, Trump said:

Modi will always be my friend. There is a special relationship between India and the United States, and no one needs to be afraid of that.”

Reacting to this statement, Prime Minister Modi expressed his views on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). He said:

“I appreciate President Trump’s sentiments. India-US relations are strategic in nature, and the relationship between the two countries is forward-looking and positive.”

The conversation comes at a time when tensions between the US and India have been high in recent months. The US has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, while Trump has also accused India of buying oil from Russia at low prices.

But Trump’s softer tone now suggests that the two leaders are ready to open a new chapter in their friendship, potentially signaling an improvement in relations between the two countries.
