Quetta: Six opposition political parties have launched a wheel jam and shutter down strike across Balochistan today, September 8, against the suicide attack on a public meeting of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) (BNP-M) at Shahwani Stadium in Quetta. The shutter-down and wheel jam strike was called on Monday on the appeal of seven political parties across Balochistan, including Quetta, due to which business and commercial centers in most cities of the province were completely closed, and traffic on the roads was non-existent. Traffic was also suspended by erecting barriers on major highways.
All small and big cities and business centers of the province are completely closed
This strike was jointly called by six political parties, including BNP-M, PTI, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, National Party, Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Balochistan witnessed such an effective strike in its length and breadth, during which normal life was badly affected.
Most business centers and commercial centers remained closed in Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Loralai, Daki, Mastung, Kalat, Sorab, Khuzdar, Kharan, Washik, Chagai, Noshki, Panjgur, Turbat, Gwadar, Sibi, Naseerabad, Jafarabad, Kohlu and other districts. Traffic on the roads was also negligible.
Shops were also closed and traffic was suspended in the surrounding areas of Quetta, including Liaquat Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Kandhari Bazaar, Zarghun Road and Sarki Road. This situation put the people in severe difficulties, especially patients and people going to hospitals, who faced difficulties, while tandoors, hotels and medical stores also remained closed in many areas.
Two days before the strike, the Balochistan Home Department had imposed Section 144 across the province and announced that action would be taken against those who forcibly closed shops and roads, while gatherings of more than ten people would also be banned.
