Islamabad/London: Police personnel entered the National Press Club on Thursday and allegedly vandalized and tortured activists, including journalists.
A protest was going on outside the National Press Club by various organizations, including the Kashmiri community. Islamabad Police personnel were also present on the occasion.
According to eyewitnesses, when the protesters started shouting slogans, the police started lathi-charging and making arrests to disperse the protest.
London Media Club President Dr. Akhtar Gulfam has described the worst violence against male and female journalists as ‘extremely sad and unacceptable’.
London Media Club President Dr. Akhtar Gulfam says, ‘For the first time in history, Islamabad police have entered the National Press Club and committed the worst violence against journalists. This is an intolerable act. Journalists covering the protest outside were also targeted, which we condemn in the strongest terms.’ He said that the rulers intoxicated by power should come to their senses.
National Press Club Acting President Ehtishamul Haque described the incident as ‘extremely sad and unacceptable’.
He added that the National Press Club will soon issue its action plan against the incident.
Police have also detained several women from the Kashmiri community protest. Members of the Kashmiri community were protesting against the deaths during the recent protest in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and expressing solidarity with these protesters.
It should be noted that several protesters have been detained by the Islamabad police during the protest.
Federal police personnel entered the National Press Club to arrest protesters protesting in Islamabad against violence in Azad Kashmir.
Some protesters were protesting outside the National Press Club against violence in Azad Kashmir. When the police personnel arrived there, some protesters went inside the Press Club, and the police personnel also forcibly entered the National Press Club to arrest them.
During this time, the Islamabad police personnel not only arrested the protesters but also tortured the journalists and club employees present inside and also broke a photographer’s camera, while the police personnel also ransacked the cafeteria.
