London: Nobel Peace Prize winner and social activist Malala Yousafzai has admitted that she used drugs several times during her university studies in the UK, but her condition deteriorated after taking drugs once.
Malala Yousafzai has admitted to using drugs in her memoir, which will be released in 2025.
Malala Yousafzai’s autobiography ‘Finding My Way’ will be released on October 21, 2025. The book narrates various aspects and challenges of her life. In the book, she has also narrated various incidents from her life.
Malala Yousafzai also mentions an incident from her Oxford University days in the book, in which she explains how using weed brought back memories of the trauma of being shot by the Taliban.
She writes that after taking the drug, she became extremely afraid and anxious, she vomited violently, her body started shaking, and she was so shocked that she could not get out of it.
Regarding the above story, she writes that one night she went with her university friend Anisa to an old shed at Oxford University, where her friend Anisa was sitting with two boys and they were taking drugs.
Malala Yousafzai writes that there was a strange glass device placed on the table in front of the boys and the girls, which she had not seen before. After the boy used it, she also used it.
She writes that she had tried cannabis before, but it had no significant effect. But using this weed left her devastated; she reached the past, and she felt as if she had reached Swat at the age of 15 and had been attacked.
She writes in the book that when she inhaled the smoke for the first time while intoxicated with weed, she started coughing loudly. After some time, she tried again and this time she inhaled the smoke without coughing.
Malala Yousafzai writes that after intoxicating herself, strange things started happening to her, her mind lost track of time, and her mind went blank.
She wrote in the book that when she started walking back to her hostel, her feet became heavy, she had difficulty walking, and her muscles stopped working. She kept trying to move her body, but her body stopped responding, then suddenly she was surrounded by intense fear.
She says that after that, she went into the same state that she felt in a coma after being attacked by the Taliban at the age of 15. Those horrific scenes came back to her mind: her school bus, a gunman, blood everywhere, and her being carried on a stretcher through a crowd.
Malala Yousafzai has written that she kept playing in her mind at that time, but her body was unable to move.
She wrote in her autobiography that she picked up her friend Anisa and took her to a hostel room, where she fell to the floor. She was having difficulty breathing, and she was constantly afraid; she felt like something was stuck in her throat, just like she had a tube in her throat in the hospital during her coma.
She writes that after some time, she went to the bathroom and vomited. As soon as she closed her eyes, the horrific scenes would start again in front of her, she would start screaming, and she did not sleep all night due to fear.
Malala Yousafzai wrote that throughout the night she was afraid that if she fell asleep she would die, she would try to keep her eyes open, shake herself and slap her face to stay awake. By morning, she felt a little better, but she remained in shock for a few days.
