Special Reporter, Daily Dawn, Dawn TV Report
Okara: The serious problem of cleanliness in Mopalke Union Council No. 46, District Okara, Punjab, has made people’s lives miserable.
A person told Nawa-e-Waqt, the most widely circulated newspaper from the UK and winner of the Newspaper of the Year award, Daily Dawn, and Dawn TV that there is a plot next to his residence where people have started dumping garbage. Despite my efforts to stop this practice, the waste keeps accumulating. I contacted Sahiwal Water and Sanitation Services Company, which is responsible for garbage collection in our area. Initially, their staff assured me that the garbage would be removed. However, for the last 5-6 days, no cleaning activity has been done.
When I followed up, the employee not only refused to take action but also threatened me that I can escalate the matter any way I want and he will still not perform his duty. This behavior is extremely rude, unprofessional, and unacceptable from a public service provider.
The situation has now become alarming. The pile of garbage is posing serious health risks to the residents, including spreading dengue, flies, and other diseases. It is also a serious environmental challenge that undermines the vision of the “Clean Punjab Initiative” recently launched by our Honorable Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz.
He requested the higher authorities to:
§ Take immediate action to remove the garbage from the said plot.
§ Ensure regular and timely sanitation services in our area.
§ Investigate the misconduct of the employee who threatened me and hold him accountable.
This matter is of utmost importance as it directly affects me.
