Oxfordshire: Four pro-Palestinian activists have been charged with trespassing on a military airbase during a protest against support for Israel in Britain.
Counter-terrorism police said the charges were “intentional entry into a prohibited place with the intent to harm the safety or interests of the UK and conspiracy to commit criminal damage.”
The four men, aged between 22 and 35, are in custody and will appear in court in London on Thursday. Police said they would present evidence linking the offenses to terrorism in court.
A group called Palestine Action says it is behind the June 20 incident.
The airbase in Oxfordshire, in central England, was broken into and two planes used for refueling and transport were sprayed with red paint.
British lawmakers voted on Wednesday to ban the Palestine Action Group, declaring it a terrorist organization.
The group has condemned the decision as an “abuse of power” and announced plans to challenge it in court.
Police said in a statement that the men who have been charged caused £7 million ($9.55 million) in damage to two planes at the Brize Norton Royal Air Force base.
