Sydney: Tens of thousands of protesters marched for peace in Gaza on Sunday despite heavy rain on the famous Harbour Bridge in the Australian city of Sydney and demanded aid.

According to the Reuters news agency, the organizers had called the demonstration a ‘March for Humanity’, with some marchers carrying pots and pans as a symbol of hunger to show solidarity with the besieged Gazans.

‘Enough is enough, when people from all over the world come together and raise their voices, evil can be defeated’, said Doug, a white-haired man in his 60s.

The protesters ranged from the elderly to families with young children, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Many held umbrellas, some held Palestinian flags, and chanted, “We are all Palestinians.”

According to New South Wales Police, 90,000 people took part in the march, far more than expected, with organisers Palestine Action Group Sydney claiming in a Facebook post that the number of marchers could be as high as 300,000.

Last week, New South Wales Police and the state premier tried to stop the march on Sydney Bridge, saying the route could pose a security risk and disrupt transport, but on Saturday, the state Supreme Court ruled that the march was allowed.
