Muzaffarabad: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Muzaffarabad has handed over the accused arrested on charges of spying for India and providing sensitive information for a huge sum of money to the Sadar Police after investigation.
According to police sources, the First Information Report (FIR) registered against Muhammad Obaid Jahangir, a resident of Dhaki Basniar Koian, a village near Rawalakot, was kept secret to facilitate the investigation process after his arrest.
The accused was arrested by CTD on July 23 and later shifted to Sadar Police Station in Muzaffarabad.
The FIR, available to Daily Dawn and Dawn TV , states that the accused was spying for the Indian intelligence agency and was providing secret information, including photographs of sensitive installations, in exchange for huge sums of money.
The document further states that he had sent the GPS location and photographs of Bilal Masjid in Shavi area of Muzaffarabad through WhatsApp and other digital means, which is the same mosque that was targeted by Indian missiles on the night of May 6.
According to the FIR, his act was against the interest and security of Pakistan and the state of Jammu and Kashmir and falls under the category of an offence under Section 3/3A of the Official Secrets Act of 1923. A case has also been registered against him under Section 54 of the Penal Code.
The case was registered on the complaint of ASI Mushtaq Ahmed, in-charge of the Field Investigation Unit of CTD Muzaffarabad.
SHO President Naveedul Hassan confirmed this development and said that the FIR registered against the accused was kept secret until the initial investigation was completed.
It should be noted that on the night of May 6, 2025, India carried out 24 attacks at 6 locations in Pakistan, including Muzaffarabad, in which 8 Pakistanis were martyred and 35 were injured.
