Britain’s asylum policy tightens, temporary ban on family reunification applications

Immigration Reporter, Daily Dawn, Dawn TV Report

London: Britain has temporarily suspended new applications for refugee family reunification.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has said that major changes are being made to the refugee system and no new applications will be submitted for the time being.

The Home Secretary said that the same conditions will now apply to refugees as for other immigrants. These conditions will include an annual income of at least 29,000 pounds, adequate housing and basic English language skills for the family.

He added that the process of sending illegal refugees back is being accelerated, and efforts will also be made to close expensive refugee hotels soon.

On the other hand, Chris Phillip, Shadow Home Secretary for the British opposition Conservative Party, called the decision insufficient and said that a minor change in the laws was not enough to deal with the serious border security crisis.
