London: The national airline (PIA) has received official approval for the Third Country Operator (TCO) for the UK.

Pakistan International Airlines has decided to start flight operations from next month after receiving official approval from the UK for the Third Country Operator.

In the first phase, Manchester flights will be operated, and after that, Birmingham and London will also be included in the network.
The British Department of Transport has formally informed PIA, as a result of which PIA will not only operate direct flights for passengers but also start cargo services.
The British Department of Transport has also issued security and cargo ACC 3 certificates to PIA for five years.

This development will regain PIA’s access to the European and British air markets after a long time.

In July this year, the UK removed Pakistan from its air safety list, allowing Pakistani airlines to now apply to operate flights to the UK. The development came after the UK Department for Transport concluded an aviation security inspection on Thursday, which described Pakistan’s security arrangements as “satisfactory and in line with international standards”.

PIA was banned from flying to the European Union, the UK and the United States in June 2020
