London: According to the latest report by Henley Passport Index, the US has dropped out of the top 10 list of the world’s most powerful passports for the first time and is now ranked 12th. US citizens can now enter only 180 countries out of 227 without a visa or a visa on arrival.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Pakistani passport has been ranked fourth among the world’s worst passports, according to the Henley Passport Index 2025, which ranks the world’s 199 passports based on how many countries their holders can travel to without a prior visa.

According to the latest ranking, Pakistan’s passport is tied with Yemen at 103rd place on the list, while only the Iraqi passport is below it at 104th, the Syrian passport at 105th and the Afghan passport at 106th.

According to the ranking, citizens of Pakistan and Yemen can enter only 33 countries without a visa, while Iraqi citizens have access to 31 countries, Syrian citizens have access to 28 countries, and Afghan citizens have access to only 26 countries.

In 2024, Pakistan’s passport was ranked 100th, and at that time allowed visa-free travel to 32 countries.

This time too, Singapore’s passport is at the top, allowing holders to enter 193 countries without a visa, followed by South Korea with visa-free access to 190 countries and Japan with 189 countries.

Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland are in fourth place with visa-free access to 188 destinations, while Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland and the Netherlands are in fifth place with access to 187 destinations.

Notably, the US has dropped out of the list of the world’s 10 most powerful passports for the first time, with the US passport now in 12th place, tied with Malaysia, which allows visa-free travel to 180 countries.

Similarly, the British passport has also reached its lowest position in history, falling from sixth to eighth place since July, despite being number one in the list in 2015.

The report names Singapore as the most powerful passport, with citizens enjoying visa-free access to 193 countries, while South Korea is second, and Japan is third.

The US passport’s decline is largely due to changes in travel policies in other countries. China and the United Arab Emirates have made significant progress on the list, with China gaining visa-free access to 37 more countries in the past 10 years and the UAE moving up from 42nd to 8th place.

Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the list as the weakest passport, with citizens only able to enter 24 countries without a visa.
