Despite the air defense system, one shell (missile or drone) managed to penetrate

Daily Dawn news, Dawn TV report

Kuwait/Washington: The first US soldiers were killed in Iran’s direct attack on a temporary operations center at a civilian port in Kuwait on Sunday morning local time.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the death toll in the attack on the Shuaiba port has risen to six, as the remains of two more missing personnel have been recovered.

Earlier, Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth said that the attack in which the military personnel were killed targeted a fortified tactical operations center, but one shell (missile or drone) managed to penetrate despite the air defense system. It was a suspected drone attack.

The US broadcaster quoted sources as saying that shortly after 9am local time, there was a direct hit on the centre of the building, described as a bridge-wide trailer (large mobile building) containing offices. According to the source, the attack was so fast that there was no warning or siren to alert soldiers to move to safe bunkers or to evacuate. Several hours after the attack, smoke was still rising from parts of the building, the interior was completely blackened and the walls had been blown outwards by the force of the explosion.

A satellite image showed a port building engulfed in flames and black smoke billowing into the sky.

Central Command initially confirmed the death of three personnel but did not specify the location. According to the source, there were dozens of people there, and the last personnel killed were missing after the dust settled. The search for remains took time because the building was on fire.
