London: The pro-Palestinian Quds March in London has been banned. British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has decided to stop the march, accepting the request of the police.
The police had requested a ban on the march in view of their responsibility to maintain law and order at the protest demonstration to be held on Sunday. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood said that this decision was taken to avoid possible unrest.
According to Shabana Mahmood, the annual farewell march is considered in some circles to be in support of Iran; however, the organizers of the march maintain that this rally is held in support of Palestine. She added that the protesters may be allowed to stand and protest at one location under strict conditions.
British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said in her statement that standing in one place can be protested under strict conditions. The aim of the ban is to avoid serious unrest during the march.
Assistant Commissioner Ed Adilkan, responsible for public order at the Met Police, has said that the ban will apply to the “Al-Quds March” and any counter-protest marches associated with it and will remain in place for 1 month.
On the other hand, Commissioner Faisal Bodi of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, the organizing organization of the march, has expressed his reaction and called the ban a “very bad day for expressing opinions.”
