London: The British government has introduced a new contingency plan to deal with potential jet fuel shortage, which aims to reduce disruption to air travel and save passengers from hardship.
According to a government statement, in view of the fuel shortage, airlines have been temporarily allowed to carry more passengers to their destinations on fewer flights. Under this, multiple flights to the same destination on the same day will be able to be combined, so that the number of flights can be reduced and fuel can be saved.
Officials say that the main objective of this measure is to reduce last-minute flight cancellations and the hardship faced by passengers.
Under the new policy, airlines have also been given the option to cancel flights in the event of a fuel shortage, but they must announce it in advance so that passengers can make alternative arrangements.
The British government has also started working on increasing production from four refineries and increasing fuel imports from the United States to improve the supply of jet fuel.
According to officials, jet fuel is currently available, but if timely measures are not taken, the situation could become serious in the next few weeks. The International Energy Agency has warned that if supplies do not improve by June, the whole of Europe could be affected.
It should be remembered that tensions have increased in the Strait of Hormuz after the US attacks on Iran on February 28, due to which fuel supplies have been affected and jet fuel prices are continuously increasing. According to the report, the price of jet fuel increased by $ 179 per barrel in the last week of April.
The measures come at a time when large numbers of British citizens are preparing to travel abroad at the start of the summer holidays, which is expected to increase demand for air travel.
