Ottawa: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced his new cabinet, including the new faces that have been included, while Pakistani-origin Shafqat Ali has also been appointed as a minister.

According to a report by the Ottawa Citizen, Shafqat Ali has been elected as a member of parliament from the Canadian city of Brampton, he will take charge as the president of the Treasury Board, while Janet Patty-Pas-Taylor, who served in this position during the tenure of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, was removed from the cabinet.

Shafqat Ali won a second term in Brampton in the recent election, after which newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney appointed him as the chairman of the Treasury Board.

With this appointment, Shafqat Ali became the first Pakistani-origin politician to join the Canadian federal cabinet.

Mark Carney has also reduced the number of ministers in the new cabinet from 39 to 29, which is said to be aimed at administrative simplicity and effective governance. Carney has retained most of the old ministers in their ministries, but some changes have also been made.
