Dublin: Ireland cricket team all-rounder Curtis Kaempfer has created history by becoming the first male cricketer to take five wickets in five balls.

He achieved this feat while representing the Munster Reds in the Interprovincial T20 Trophy match against the North-West Warriors in Dublin.

The Munster Reds won the match by 100 runs.

Kempfer began his spell by bowling Jared Wilson and LBWing Graham Hume in the last two balls of the 12th over, and then completing his hat-trick by dismissing Andy McBrien on his return in the 14th over.

He then made history by dismissing Robert Miller and Josh Wilson.

Kempfer told Cricket Ireland that “I had absolutely no idea what was happening. I just kept things simple, stuck to my strategy, and luckily everything worked out.”

The first player to achieve this unique feat was Zimbabwean women’s all-rounder Kelis Andhalo, who took five wickets in five consecutive balls against Eagles Women in a domestic Under-19 T20 match in 2024.
