London: Britain has announced the introduction of a free digital ID scheme for its citizens and residents in the country to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.

The government says the move will make it easier to apply for driving licenses, childcare and welfare benefits, while also providing easy access to tax records.

The government has said that the new digital ID will be stored on citizens’ mobile phones, and they will not need to carry or present their identity cards.

The statement said: “This measure will prevent people who do not have the right to work here from getting jobs, which will limit their opportunities to earn money, which is considered a major reason for those who come to the UK illegally.”
The announcement comes as the ruling Labour Party prepares for its annual conference, and pressure is growing on Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the issue of illegal immigration.

Keir Starmer said, “Digital ID is a huge opportunity for the UK, and it will also provide numerous benefits to ordinary citizens.”

He added: “We are working hard to make Britain a fair country, for those who want to see change, not division.”
The UK has traditionally opposed the idea of identity cards, but recent polls show support for the move.
