Sialkot: The dispute that began in the Pir Chak Motra area of the suburbs over the burial of an Ahmadi woman turned into an arson attack and violence on September 28, after which the police have launched an operation.
Police in Pir Chak Motra area of Sialkot say that the ongoing dispute over the burial of an Ahmadi woman in a local cemetery reached the stage of arson attack by some angry people on Sunday.
On the request of the locals, the police registered a case of vandalism and violence against the Ahmadis on September 23, but yesterday, on September 28, the Ahmadis alleged that their camps were attacked and set on fire by angry people.
Police officer Muhammad Adnan of the concerned police station said that action is being taken against those involved in the arson. Action has also been taken against those who incited against the burial of a woman in a local cemetery.
Ahmadiyya Jamaat spokesperson Aamir Mahmood said, “This matter started when the body of an Ahmadi woman, Qudsia Tabassum, who died in Pir Chak on September 21, was stopped from being buried in the local cemetery. “When the Ahmadis went to bury the body, the locals gathered and forcibly stopped it. The administration, after four days, arranged for the burial in a cemetery 14 kilometers away.”
Aamir Mahmood said, “Since the establishment of Pakistan, Ahmadis have also been allowed to be buried in this cemetery. “But for the past two and a half years, Ahmadis have not been allowed to be buried here. During this period, more than six Ahmadis had to be buried in remote areas.”
