Lahore: A Police crackdown is underway in Punjab to stop Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s march against Israel from Lahore to Islamabad, in which two people have been reported dead so far.
TLP has announced to march from Lahore to Islamabad under the name of ‘Labbaik Al-Aqsa’ on Friday, October 10, but according to a TLP spokesperson, police raided TLP’s Lahore center, Masjid Rehmat-e-Al-Amin, on Wednesday and Thursday night, injuring several workers and killing two. Police have surrounded the TLP center on Multan Road. When the police fired tear gas, the workers also pelted stones, which reportedly injured several police personnel.
A large number of workers have gathered around the TLP headquarters. The workers are also holding stones and sticks, but workers coming from other cities are not being allowed to go to the center.
Earlier, the Jamaat-e-Islami march coming from Balochistan was not allowed to go to Islamabad from Lahore, and the participants were stopped at the Jamaat-e-Islami headquarters in Mansoura. After negotiations, the Jamaat-e-Islami ended the march in Lahore itself.
Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s Lahore-Islamabad march has been stopped before. There have been violent incidents twice due to clashes between the police and workers.
