Dawn Investigation
Lahore: Law enforcement agencies are still unaware of the whereabouts of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan chief Saad Hussain Rizvi and his brother Anas Rizvi, despite the passage of almost three months.
The matter resurfaced a few days ago when an alleged statement attributed to the banned religious organisation started circulating on social media, claiming that both brothers are in the custody of state agencies.
However, senior law enforcement officials are sticking to their earlier stand and say that both brothers are hiding somewhere in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. According to them, the Rizvi brothers escaped the day Punjab Police conducted an early morning operation to dismantle the TLP protest camp set up on GT Road in Muridke.
Speaking to Nawa-e-Waqt/Dawn, an officer said that they were confident that Saad and Anas were in the custody of some security agency.
Punjab Police informed the concerned authorities in Islamabad that if Saad and Anas are in the custody of any agency, they should be arrested in several cases; however, federal officials said that neither is in the custody of any agency.
Sources said that both brothers have been declared most wanted accused in serious cases, including anti-terrorism charges.
According to the authorities, 44 cases have been registered against Saad and Anas in Sheikhupura and 11 in Lahore, in which they have been named and the charges are of a very serious nature.
It was also said that difficulties are being faced in arresting the two absconding leaders because they are not using phones or other digital means, due to which it has become difficult to trace their whereabouts.
