Sweden wants to ban virginity tests for girls

The move is aimed at providing women with better protection against the threat of honor killings and other crimes

Sweden: According to the current regulations in Sweden, only professional disciplinary action can be taken against professionals who conduct so-called virginity tests for women.
The country’s department responsible for social services in this European country is called Social Sterilization. According to this department, the relevant ministers of the Stockholm government are considering introducing a law with heavy fines by making ‘virginity checks’ and issuing ‘virginity certificates’ for young girls and women a crime.

Along with this, medical operations that are performed or commissioned to restore a torn hymen or hymen should also be declared a punishable offense. The move is aimed at providing women with better protection against the threat of honor killings and other crimes.

‘There is no scientific basis for such tests’
A test is carried out on a woman to determine whether she is a virgin. This involves observing the thin membrane-like tissue in her reproductive system, called the hymen.
