Islamabad: Despite the federal government’s crackdown on the sugar mafia, the sale of sugar at the official price has not started, and a big discrepancy is visible in the price of sugar in the retail and wholesale markets.

Although the price of sugar per kilogram x mill has increased from Rs 165 to Rs 167 in August under the formula of the Federal Ministry of Food Security, sugar is being supplied at Rs 169 per kilogram x mill in the wholesale market.

The wholesale price of sugar per kilogram at the official level is Rs 170, but sugar is being sold at Rs 172 in the wholesale market.

According to Rauf Ibrahim, Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association, per kilogram of sugar in the retail market is Rs 10 more than in the wholesale market, and the selling price of per kilogram of sugar in the retail market is between Rs 182 and Rs 200.

According to Rauf Ibrahim, the Commissioner Karachi had fixed the price of per kilogram of sugar in the retail market at Rs 173.

He said that after the crackdown, sugar is available in abundance in the wholesale markets and deliveries from sugar mill owners have also resumed, but sugar mills are not supplying sugar at the fixed price of Rs 167 per kilogram for August.

Rauf Ibrahim said that if sugar mills sell sugar at the fixed government price at the ex-mill price, then sugar will become cheaper by Rs 2 per kilogram in the wholesale market.
