The Indian board clarifies on playing or not playing with Pakistan in the Asia Cup

Muhammad Abrar, Daily Dawn, Dawn TV Report

New Delhi, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified its stance on the issue of participating against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

According to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, the board is bound by the policy of the Government of India and takes decisions accordingly. He said that under the recent government policy of India, there is no ban on the participation of the national team in international and multinational events, so India will play all matches in tournaments like the Asia Cup.

He said that the government’s policy is strict only regarding bilateral series, so India does not play a direct cricket series with any enemy country. However, it is inevitable for India to participate in events held under the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council.

Devjit Saikia further said that if there is a refusal to play against certain countries in any multinational event, then the international federations can impose sanctions, which will also affect Indian players. According to him, this is the reason why the government has formulated this clear policy for all sports so that no player is harmed.
