London: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has started a new experiment in the rules of the wide ball in cricket.
In the first ODI match played between Australia and India in Perth, new blue lines were used on both sides of the wicket, which surprised the fans. Similarly, new lines were also seen in the first ODI played between Bangladesh and the West Indies in Mirpur.
According to sources, the ICC is experimenting with the new law of wide ball near the leg stump under a six-month trial phase. If this experiment is successful, it will be officially implemented in white-ball cricket.
According to the old law, if the ball went even close to the leg stump, it was declared wide, which gave more benefit to the batters and less room for error for the bowlers.
Under the new law, new lines near the leg stump will determine the wide ball going to the leg side. If the ball passes inside the line, it will not be declared wide; only the ball that goes outside the line will be wide.
