Karachi: An anti-terrorism court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Mahrang Baloch, a leader of the Baloch Unity Committee (BYC), who is currently in jail in Balochistan, in a sedition case.

The investigating officer of the case, while submitting the challan, put Dr. Mahrang’s name in column number 2 and declared him as ‘absconder’.

The judge of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court No. 5, while issuing a non-bailable warrant, directed the investigating officer to arrest Dr. Mahrang and present him in court on September 5.

The investigating officer said in the report that Dr. Mahrang has been charged under sections 124-A (sedition), 148 (riot with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups), 500 (defamation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 (terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.

According to the BYC leader’s lawyer, his client is currently on police remand in Quetta in another case, but this move is being termed as an attempt to prolong her detention.

Dr. Mahrang’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, says that as soon as her physical remand in Quetta ends, she will be transferred to Karachi and kept in further detention.

He wrote in a Facebook post that the Karachi Anti-Terrorism Court has issued a non-bailable warrant for Dr. Mahrang Baloch and has promised to arrest and produce him by September 5, the very day his current remand granted by the Quetta ATC is ending.
