Madrid: At least 21 people were injured, three of whom are said to be in critical condition, in a powerful explosion at a cafe in Madrid, the capital of Spain.
According to the international news agency Reuters, the incident occurred at around 3 pm on Saturday in the south-central district of Velasco, Madrid. Rescue and emergency services immediately arrived at the scene after the explosion, and the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals.
According to Spanish authorities, most of the injured suffered minor injuries, but three people are in critical condition and are being kept in intensive care.
The exact cause of the explosion is not yet known. Police and security agencies are conducting a full investigation into the incident, and the scene has been sealed off. Initial evidence suggests the explosion occurred inside the cafe, but it is unclear whether it was the result of a gas leak or for some other reason.
