Quetta: Militants attacked police and Levies stations in Balochistan’s Sherani district, resulting in the death of one policeman, while two Levies personnel were injured and one is missing.
According to local Levies, the incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in Mir Ali Khel, the headquarters of Sherani district, adjacent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where more than 15 attackers simultaneously attacked the Levies station Mir Ali Khel and the police station located a short distance away with small and large weapons.
Deputy Commissioner Sherani Hazrat Wali Kakar confirmed the incident and said, “The police and Levies personnel returned fire; however, during this time, police constable Altaf, who was on the roof of the police station, was martyred in the fire, while Levies Sepoy Kalu Khan and Sepoy Wahid Khan were injured in the exchange of fire.”
According to the Levies, the attackers set fire to the Levies police station and a vehicle parked there. The exchange of fire continued for more than half an hour, after which the attackers escaped.
A Levies constable, Azam Khan, went missing during the attack, and it is feared that the attackers took him with them.
According to the Levies, a large contingent of police, Levies and ATF from the nearby Zhob district reached the scene as soon as the incident was reported. A search operation is underway to find the missing official. The injured officials have been shifted to the Civil Hospital in Zhob.
The involvement of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan is suspected in the attack, but no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
