Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday elected Sohail Afridi, the nominee of the Tehreek-e-Insaf, as the Chief Minister.

In the voting held on Monday, October 13, 2025, Muhammad Sohail Afridi received 90 votes. On this occasion, he made a passionate speech in the assembly in which he thanked Imran Khan for his election.

Regarding the establishment, Sohail Afridi said, “We request them to take the public into confidence when making any policy regarding Afghanistan, and the problems will be resolved.”

He said, “We will bring those who kill ordinary people in the name of collateral damage in drone strikes to justice.”

Sohail Afridi said, “If they kill five people today, 23 tomorrow and 100 the next day, they will have to be brought to justice.”

Regarding the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, Sohail Afridi said that they have been banned without any reason, and the names of their workers have been included in Schedule Four.

He said that he will talk to the central government in this regard about why PTM has been banned and its workers are in the Schedule Four list, so that we too know why such people who do not even know how to shoot a gun are in Schedule Four.

Sohail Afridi said that he did not become the Chief Minister through a slip, that is, through recommendation, but through hard work.

He said that he belongs to a middle-class family from the tribal districts. ‘Neither my father, nor my brother, nor my relatives are politicians. Neither Zardari, nor Bhutto, nor Sharif is next to my name. Writing Zardari and Bhutto next to my name does not make a great leader.’

The young Chief Minister said that he is a champion of protest politics and he has nothing to lose. ‘Neither cars, nor bungalows, nor money, nor the greed of a chair, I will remain as I am. I will kick this chair whenever my leaders say.’

He insisted that the tribes are not always there to stay behind, not to seize their minerals, but the tribes are happy to become my Chief Minister.

According to Sohail Afridi, ‘Military operations are not the solution to any problem. The world is moving towards dialogue. Military operations have been taking place before, but terrorism still exists today.

Regarding the solution, Sohail Afridi said that the elected government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, its representatives, and local leaders will have to be taken into confidence.

Regarding Afghanistan, Sohail Afridi said that the Afghan policy will have to be reviewed, and when Imran Khan was the Prime Minister, he went to Afghanistan and talked there, and there was no tension at that time.

He said, “Now, after 30-40 years of living, we are pushing Afghans out. Where is the humanity in this. We request the central government and the establishment to take the government, public representatives, and the public into confidence on the Afghan policy, then the answer will be positive.”
