Mohammad Mohit Daily Dawn, Dawn TV Report
Dhaka: A Bangladeshi court has ordered the detention and jailing of 15 senior military officers in a case of murder, enforced disappearances and atrocities against humanity.
These military officers were involved in enforced disappearances, the establishment of secret detention centers and the killing of government critics during the Sheikh Hasina Wajid government.
The report states that the accused were presented in court for bail, but the court rejected the bail application and ordered the jailing of all 15 officers.
This is the first time that formal charges have been filed against senior military officers, including five generals, in a case of enforced disappearances in Bangladesh. All the accused have been associated with military intelligence and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
It should be noted that more than 1,000 people were killed in Bangladesh during anti-government protests in 2024, after which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country and moved to India.
