Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has said that the Peshawar-Islamabad (M-1) and Hakla-DI Khan (M-14) motorways have been closed at various places due to protests. According to the NHMP, the M-1 motorway from Peshawar to Islamabad is completely closed for traffic from Swabi Interchange to Burhan Interchange, while the Mardan-Rishkai Interchange is also blocked. Authorities have directed citizens to use the alternative route of GT Road.

The M-14 motorway, also known as the western route of CPEC, is blocked from York Interchange near DI Khan to CPEC Interchange at Isa Khel. Yesterday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers had blocked the road on the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway by staging a sit-in at Swabi. The roads leading from Dera Ismail Khan to Punjab are also closed due to the sit-in on Bhakkar Road, Qureshi Mor, Chashma Road and CPEC Road.

Due to the PTI sit-in, traffic was completely stopped near the Havelian interchange of the Hazara Motorway, resulting in long queues of vehicles. The angry workers also did not allow a dead body in an ambulance near Burhan on the Hazara Motorway to proceed.

The protest on the Hazara Motorway leading to Hazara Division, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan entered its fourth day, due to which the Hazara Motorway from Havelian remained completely closed and vehicles were jammed on the motorway. The political police of Abbottabad are protecting the protesting workers instead of opening the motorway, as a result of which there was severe disruption in alternative routes on the Karakoram Highway and a journey of a few minutes started taking hours.
