Islamabad / Quetta: The moon of Muharram 1447 AH has been sighted, the first day of Muharram will be tomorrow, June 27, while the day of Ashura will be on Sunday, July 6.
A meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office of Quetta under the chairmanship of Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, in which officials of Suparco and the Meteorological Department were also present.
In addition, meetings of the zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees were held at the respective headquarters, while the meeting of the zonal committee in Islamabad was held at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad announced the sighting of the moon of Muharram during a press conference after the meeting.
He said that the moon of Muharram has been sighted, tomorrow, Friday, June 27, will be the 1st of Muharram, while the 9th of Muharram will be on Saturday, July 5, and the Day of Ashura, 10th of Muharram, will be on Sunday, July 6.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had said that the weather in Quetta is dusty, the chances of seeing the moon are low, the period of moon sighting is from 8:10 am to 9 am, while the age of the moon is 28 hours and 38 minutes.
It should be noted that the moon of Muharram was sighted yesterday in other Arab and Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and the Islamic year 1447 Hijri began in these countries today, June 26.
