Delhi: India’s Delhi University has decided to remove MA Political Science courses related to Islam, Pakistan and China from the curriculum.
This decision has come at a time when allegations of establishing ideological control in educational institutions on the BJP government have already gained momentum.
According to Indian media reports, the Standing Committee of Delhi University has recommended the removal of subjects like “Islam and International Relations”, “Pakistan and the World”, “Pakistani State and Society”, and “China” from the curriculum.
Along with this, the Vice Chancellor of the university has also directed the Curriculum Committee to remove “descriptive material” related to Pakistan.
Several professors and academicians of the university have expressed serious reservations over this decision, calling it political pressure and ideological censorship. According to them, this decision is a serious attack on academic freedom.
Analysts say the move is a continuation of the BJP government’s policy of using educational institutions to promote a narrative against minorities and neighboring countries.
