Karachi: A 5-storey building collapsed in Lyari Baghdadi, 7 people were killed and many were buried under the rubble, 22 people injured were pulled out of the rubble, of which two are in critical condition.
According to rescue officials, teams of rescue agencies, police and Rangers reached the spot immediately after the incident and rescue operations have been started. Efforts are underway to rescue the victims with the help of residents.
Officials say that 6 people have died in the collapse of the residential building, 12 people were pulled out injured, including 3 women. The injured were shifted to the Trauma Center Civil Hospital, where the medical administration said that the condition of two injured is critical.
The rescue spokesman said that 25 to 30 people, including children, may be buried under the rubble of the building.
On the other hand, Karachi police have started searching for the owner of the collapsed building.
Edhi’s spokesman said that 5 bodies and 6 injured people were pulled out of the rubble, emergency services have been imposed in Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital and Civil Hospital.
Rescue officials said that 6 families were living in the building, and efforts are being made to rescue more people buried under the rubble. The 2 and 7-storey buildings adjacent to the collapsed building have also been evacuated.
Officials said that several people are buried under the rubble of the residential building, heavy machinery is facing difficulties in reaching due to narrow streets, and a large number of residents of the area are also engaged in rescue activities.
According to eyewitnesses, several families were living in the building, and the building was in a dilapidated condition before the collapse. Many buildings are still in a dilapidated condition in the old area of the city.
