London: Former Labour MP Zara Sultana has claimed that she is going to form a new political party with former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Zara Sultana has accused the British government of being ‘actively involved in genocide’ in Gaza.

Zara Sultana made this announcement on the social media platform X on Thursday evening, a day after Jeremy Corbyn said on ITV’s political program ‘Peston’ that an alternative is desperately needed in British politics.

In her message, Zara Sultana claimed that the Westminster political system is broken and her new movement will focus on social justice in the UK and around the world.

She wrote, ‘The Labour Party has completely failed to improve people’s lives. And across the political system, from (Reform Party leader Nigel) Farage to (Prime Minister) Starmer, they are branding people of conscience who are trying to stop the genocide in Gaza as terrorists.’
’But the truth is clear: this government is actively complicit in the genocide. And the British people oppose it.’
Zara Sultana added that voters will be faced with a choice in the next general election between ‘socialism or barbarism’.
‘Jeremy Corbyn and I are going to join forces with other independent MPs, activists and activists from across the country to form a new party,’ she announced.
Jeremy Corbyn has not yet confirmed whether he will be part of the new party, but he admitted on the TV programme that he had held talks with four independent MPs, Shaukat Adam, Ayub Khan, Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohammed, who were elected in July 2024 on a manifesto opposing the war in Gaza.’
The BBC’s Newsnight programme confirmed that Zara Sultana had met Jeremy Corbyn and members of the Independent Coalition earlier this week, but Corbyn was not keen on the idea of a “joint leadership”. Journalist Gabriel Pogrund quoted a source as saying that Corbyn was “angry and surprised” that Zara Sultana had announced without consulting him.
