Islamabad: The UK has launched a new e-visa service for Pakistani students and professionals from today.
According to a statement by the British High Commission on Tuesday, the British government has introduced a digital immigration status, or e-visa, in place of physical immigration documents for visas for most students and professionals. An e-visa is an online record of an individual’s immigration permission to the UK and its associated conditions, which can be viewed by logging into a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said in a statement on the social media platform X that they are launching e-visa facility for Pakistani students and professionals applying for a period of more than six months.
He said that this facility will make the visa process simple and secure, while the passport will remain with the applicant, meaning there will be no need to submit it.
The British High Commission has also said that from today, students and professionals wishing to travel to the UK will not need a sticker visa.
According to the statement, e-visa holders can simplify their foreign travel by linking their travel document such as passport to their UKVI account.
Individuals who create a UKVI account will be able to securely show their immigration status to their employer or landlord in England through the ‘View and Prove’ service.
The High Commission has also said that this facility will soon be implemented across all visa categories, making the process of obtaining a British visa more secure, easy and efficient.
The categories mentioned for e-visas include students, global talent, international sportspersons, health and care workers and a few other sectors.
The UK is one of the countries where thousands of students from Pakistan go to study every year. However, its visa policy has changed over time. Not only students, but also people from different fields strive to go to the UK for work every year.
