Sheffield: A man has been jailed for releasing wild rats outside a mosque in the British city of Sheffield.
66-year-old Edmund Fowler was removing rats from the back of his car outside Sheffield Grand Mosque when CCTV cameras recorded the scene. In the footage, the rats can be seen climbing over the mosque fence and entering the building.
Fowler had done this three times between May and June before his conviction. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on four charges of racial harassment and was banned from going near the mosque for another 18 months after his release.
The mosque manager said in a statement that members of the community are “fearing further harassment and are now very afraid to come to the mosque.”
