Commissioner Sahiwal Division Dr. Asif Tufail chairs a special review meeting on water drainage after recent heavy rains.

Sahiwal: A special review meeting on water drainage after recent heavy rains was held at the Commissioner’s Office under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sahiwal Division Dr. Asif Tufail. In which Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mehmood, Director Development and Finance Shafiq Ahmed Dogar, and Muhammad Doctor participated. Okara district received a record 335 mm of rain on July 15 and 16, due to which water drainage from different villages of the district is delayed. He said that due to overflowing of Sukhrava Drain and Sukh Beas Drain from different places, rainwater from both the drains had also entered the adjacent villages. He said that it will take another four days to drain all the water. There was no loss of life or property due to the overflow of both the drains. Water also stood up due to the removal of soil from their fields by the landowners. The flow in the Ravi River is increasing at Qutub Shahana Bridge and bathing in rivers and streams under Section 144 is strictly prohibited. He directed the Deputy Commissioners of the three districts to also seek the services of Rescue 1122 wherever necessary. He further said that the Deputy Commissioners should themselves monitor the drainage of rainwater from the villages.
