Sahiwal: The Regional Union of Journalists Pakistan is working day and night for the welfare of journalists. This was said by RUJ Pakistan General Secretary Abid Mughal while talking to Dawn TV during his visit to Sahiwal Press Club. District President Chauhri Najeeb Ahmed, Mirza Khalid and other journalists were also present on the occasion. He said that RUJ has always been of the view that the government should provide protection to journalists in the region. I am not saying that the Lahore Press Club should not be given a grant, but that grants should also be provided to the other eight divisional press clubs. DGPR Lahore should provide funds to other press clubs as well. He further said that the PICA Act, a black law that the government has made, is only made to suppress journalists. The government should provide protection to regional journalists. The cases registered against journalists under the FICA Act are baseless, they should be dropped immediately. The government should release funds from a special fund for the welfare of the children of journalists and the grant should also be increased for deceased journalists.
