Peshawar High Court: Chief Minister and Speaker challenge oath-taking of members at Governor House

Peshawar: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly have challenged the oath-taking of members elected on reserved seats at the Governor House in the Peshawar High Court.

The petition has made the Federation, Registrar Peshawar High Court, Governor, Election Commission and others parties.

The petition has taken the position that the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly did not refuse to take the oath from the elected members. When the assembly session began, the Speaker adjourned the session until July 24 on the indication of quorum.

The petition has taken the position that the oath-taking of members at Governor House is unconstitutional, the Chief Justice has judicial powers under the constitution, not administrative, without listening to us, the Chief Justice nominated the Governor for the oath-taking.

It should be noted that yesterday, the elected members of the assembly on reserved seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took the oath at Governor House Peshawar, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi administered the oath to the members.

The reserved seats include 21 women and four minority seats. Seven members each from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Muslim League (N) took oath, four from the PPP, two from the ANP and one from the PTI (P) took oath.
