Sindh Provincial Zakat Fund and District Committees Revealed to Have Laid Off Rs. 330 Million

Illegal payments of more than Rs. 2.1 million were also made to government employees from the Zakat Fund, the Auditor General’s report reveals

Islamabad: The Auditor General of Pakistan’s report has revealed financial irregularities of more than Rs. 330 million in the Sindh Provincial Zakat Fund and District Zakat Committees for the financial year 2022-2024.

According to the audit report issued by the Auditor General of Pakistan on the Sindh Provincial Zakat Fund and District Zakat Committees, irregularities of Rs. 244 million have been revealed in the District Zakat Committees.

The report states that illegal payments of more than Rs 2.1 million were made to government employees from the Zakat Fund, in addition to other audit observations of Rs 7.23 million.

The report reveals that the Sindh Bank administration did not provide ATM cards to 4,744 beneficiaries, due to which an amount of Rs 3.89 million could not reach the beneficiaries and remained with the bank.

It has further been reported that Rs 2.8 million was illegally paid to Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) beneficiaries from the Zakat Fund and more than Rs 4.1 million was also reported to Sindh Bank as verification charges and 5 cases of non-recovery of dues of Rs 3.65 million have come to light.

The Auditor General has recommended urgent reforms to bring transparency in the distribution of the Zakat Fund and improve the system.
