Lahore: Revolutionary poet Habib Jalib’s daughter Tahira Habib Jalib has entered electoral politics with the support of ideological families of the PPP and has become a candidate to contest by-election from NA-139 National Assembly constituency from Lahore. She has appealed to the PPP leadership and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in particular for support based on her spiritual connection to her father’s poetry.

At the Lahore Press Club, PPP leader Faisal Mir, along with Dr. Ayesha Shaukat, daughter of former PPP Punjab president Rana Shaukat Mahmood, and civil society leaders, appealed for election support from the left wing and the working class. They also addressed Habib Jalib’s six old colleagues in the field of journalism and appealed to new, well-known journalists to help him out of respect for Habib Jalib.

She said that Habib Jalib represented the working and downtrodden class throughout his life, and I, too, as a taxi driver, have made hard work a motto and represent the working class. I also want to add the title of taxi driver to my name so that I can reach the National Assembly as a female taxi driver and open the doors for the common man to reach their houses.
