Quetta: The government has shut down mobile internet (3G and 4G) services in all 36 districts of Balochistan since August 6 due to security reasons, due to which millions of people have been deprived of online facilities. According to officials, this ban will remain in place until August 31.
The shutdown has severely affected everyone from ordinary users to students, freelancers, traders, food delivery riders and women working from home.
A senior official of the Balochistan Home Department said on condition of anonymity that this step has been taken due to the sensitivity of the month of August as attacks by Baloch armed groups increase during these days. “The risk of attacks increases especially on August 11, August 14 and August 26. “Last year, there were dozens of attacks in these days, killing more than 30 people.”
