London: Digital services for land records and passports have been launched for Pakistanis living in the UK. This facility is a major step towards resolving the long-standing problems of more than 1.6 million Pakistanis living in the UK.

The federal government has launched digital services for land records and passport processing for Pakistanis living in the UK.

The initiative was introduced by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Pakistani High Commission in London.

This facility is a major step towards resolving the long-standing problems of more than 1.6 million Pakistanis living in the UK, who play an important role in money transfers, business and cultural relations but face difficulties in buying, selling, transferring and resolving disputes in Pakistan.

Through the ‘Land Records Service’, Pakistanis living in the UK will be able to access their property records in Punjab.

The platform will provide services like online sale deeds, personal or record of rights, e-Gardawari, death and document verification. All records are secured through blockchain technology to ensure transparency and prevent forgery.

Initially, a Land Services Desk has been set up at the Pakistani High Commission in London, while in the future this facility will be extended to other Pakistani consulates in the UK.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has launched a ‘One Window Passport Processing System’, under which all stages of passport application will be completed at a single counter.

This system will reduce the processing time to about 10 minutes per application, which will provide convenience, transparency and decongestion to Pakistanis living in the UK.

Ishaq Dar termed these steps as a ‘digital leap towards protecting the rights of overseas Pakistanis and promoting investment’.
