‘Top priority’ is to ‘secure borders’, countries should take back their citizens who have no legal right to stay in the UK, says Home Minister Shabana Mahmood

London: Britain’s new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said that visas of countries that are ‘uncooperative’ and do not agree to agreements on the return of refugees can be suspended.
The new Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has repeatedly said that her ‘top priority’ is to ‘secure borders’. She has demanded that countries take back their citizens who have no legal right to stay in the UK.
The British government is facing intense pressure to stop the arrival of small boats through the English Channel. More than 30,000 people have reached the UK so far this year, including more than 1,000 who arrived on Saturday alone.
