We shook hands with Pakistani players in the Kargil War, too, says former Indian minister

New Delhi: Indian Congress leader and former minister Shashi Tharoor has advised keeping sports and politics separate after the handshake controversy in the Asia Cup matches between Pakistan and India.

Shashi Tharoor has said in an interview that in 1999, the Kargil War was going on, and soldiers were dying. Even then, we shook hands with Pakistani players in the World Cup in England, so why is it like this now? If we feel so strongly about Pakistan, we should not have played, and if we are playing, we should play with the spirit of sports, shake hands with them. The spirit of sports is different from what happens between countries.
