Sahiwal: Principal Sahiwal Medical College Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Malik has said that breast cancer is a major cause of death among women. With timely treatment, it can not only be prevented from spreading but also complete recovery is possible. Women must consult a doctor as soon as the symptoms of this disease appear and get it treated instead of hiding the disease. He said this while addressing an awareness seminar on breast cancer held at Sahiwal Medical College. Faculty members and paramedical staff participated in large numbers. He noted that breast cancer prevention is a challenge worldwide, and the only way to deal with it is to create awareness and consciousness among women about this disease. Dr. Islamuddin Iftikhar, Consultant Cancer Surgeon at Sheikh Zahid Hospital, Lahore, said that today’s seminar aims to make people aware that early diagnosis of breast cancer is possible. He explained the symptoms of breast cancer and said that women above 40 years of age should undergo mammography once. Dr. Waleja Shamika noted that early diagnosis is a means of preventing breast cancer. She said that if women feel any change in their breasts, they should consult a doctor immediately. She urged women to consult a doctor immediately if they experience symptoms of breast cancer because this dangerous disease can be treated in the early stages. In the seminar, speech and documentary-making competitions were organized among students regarding breast cancer, and certificates were distributed among the winners.
