Sahiwal: Commissioner Sahiwal Division Dr. Asif Tufail has said that smog is a serious environmental problem, to deal with which the government is taking all possible steps, including control over industrial pollution, strict implementation of traffic rules and public awareness. He said that all the relevant institutions will have to work in coordination to control smog. He was presiding over the meeting of the Divisional Environment Committee in his office, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Okara Ahmed Usman Javed, Deputy Commissioner Pakpattan Asif Raza, Additional Commissioner Coordination Dr. Saifullah Bhatti and other senior officers. The meeting reviewed the preventive measures being taken at the level of all the districts. The health department informed in a briefing that smog prevention operations are underway in Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan. Steps like walks, seminars, announcements in mosques and distribution of pamphlets are being taken to spread awareness among the citizens about the harmful effects of smog on their health. Commissioner Dr. Asif Tufail directed that all departments should maintain close contact with the district administration and the Environmental Protection Department so that the problem of smog can be controlled under an effective strategy. He expressed the hope that through coordinated efforts, this environmental challenge can be overcome and a better, cleaner environment can be provided to the citizens.
