London: British Ambassador to the US, Sir Christian Turner, has said in a leaked audio that in the current global situation, America’s ‘special relationship’ is not with Britain but possibly only with Israel.
According to a report by the British channel Dawn TV and the Financial Times newspaper, the ambassador admitted that there is still close cooperation between the US and the UK in the fields of defense, economy and security, but this relationship is not the same as in the past and is changing rapidly according to global conditions.
Sir Christian Turner said that Europe should no longer rely entirely on the US for its security, but must adopt a new strategy.
He said that the Western allies need to re-evaluate their mutual relations and responsibilities.
He added that in the current era, America’s strongest and most prominent relationship seems to be with Israel, which reflects the changing political situation in the region.
On the other hand, the British Foreign Office has expressed its indifference to this statement, saying that this is the personal opinion of the ambassador and should not be considered as the official policy of the United Kingdom.
