London: Less than a week before the Miss World 2025 finals to be held in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, Miss England Mila Magee has quit the competition, claiming that contestants were forced to ‘sit like monkeys’.

The Miss World organization has denied Miss England’s allegation that she was ‘used for entertainment.’

Mila Magee, 24, from Newquay, Cornwall, told The Sun that she could not ‘morally’ participate in the competition because the competition was ‘outdated’ and ‘stuck in the past’.

When she first left the competition on May 16, the decision was attributed to ‘personal reasons’, but Maggie later claimed that contestants were forced to provide ‘entertainment’ to middle-aged male investors.

She told the newspaper: ‘There were two girls at each table of six guests. We were expected to sit with them all evening and entertain them as a thank you.

‘I found it unbelievable. I thought ‘This is so wrong.’ I didn’t come here to entertain people. The same is said about Miss World, but it is ‘outdated and stuck in the past. They made me feel like a prostitute.’

Maggie also said that officials treated contestants with ‘disrespect’ and kicked them out for being ‘boring’. ‘It was a small incident, but it showed what they think of us and how little we are respected.’

Miss World Organization CEO Julia Morley has denied Magee’s claims, calling them ‘false and defamatory’.

The statement said: ‘Earlier this month, Mila Magee requested to withdraw from the competition due to a reported family emergency regarding her mother’s health. As a mother and grandmother herself, Miss World Chairwoman Julia Morley CBE, responded sympathetically to Mila’s situation and immediately arranged for her return to England, with the well-being of the contestant and her family in mind.

‘Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some UK media outlets have allegedly published false and defamatory statements by Mila Magee regarding her experience in India, which are completely unfounded and do not correspond to the reality of her time with us.’ In response, the Miss World organization is releasing unedited videos, which she recorded during the pageant’s stay in India. The videos reflect her own words and emotions and serve as a direct counter to the recent false stories.’

Jesh Ranjan, a senior official in Telangana state, of which Hyderabad is the capital, told Indian media that an internal inquiry had been conducted and Maggi’s allegations were ‘fabricated and highly exaggerated’.

Indian newspaper The Hindu, referring to the event where Maggi said the participants were asked to entertain investors, said: ‘We have reviewed the CCTV footage of that night.’

‘It clearly shows that Mullah Maggi was sitting with a man and four women, the gentleman was a senior IAS officer, accompanied by his wife, daughter-in-law and their guests. He is known for his impeccable reputation and professionalism. To say that she made any inappropriate advances, especially in the presence of her family members, is incomprehensible and incomprehensible.

The event in question at the Chowmahalla Palace, to be held on May 13, appears to be a cultural evening as it is only one of three formal social events in the official itinerary of the Miss World 2025 pageant.

According to a report by The News Minute which spoke to an unnamed senior government official who was part of the inquiry, Maggi was seated at a table with Miss Wales who made no such complaint.

Ranjan said he spoke to several other contestants whose experiences were “quite the opposite of what Miss England alleged”.

Ranjan added, “We only heard one minor complaint from some contestants about the high number of people requesting selfies, which they felt was excessive, but it was not offensive.”

After Maggie’s departure, Miss England’s first runner-up Charlotte Grant arrived in India on Wednesday to represent the country in the final on May 31.
