Glasgow: A 17-year-old in Scotland has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the High Court in Glasgow for planning a terrorist attack on a mosque.
The court also ordered that the accused will be kept under strict supervision for another 8 years after completing his sentence.
Judge Lord Arthur Son remarked in the verdict that the accused had prepared an “extremely diabolical and dangerous plan”. The name of the young man was not disclosed due to legal requirements.
The court proceedings revealed that the accused had been exposed to extremism through social media since the age of 13. A list of extremists like Hitler, Mussolini and Anders Breivik, who carried out terrorist attacks in Norway, was also recovered from his mobile phone.
According to the prosecution, the suspect planned to set worshippers on fire after attacking the mosque. British media say that police arrested him outside the Inverclyde Muslim Centre in January.
A German-made air pistol, bullets, cartridges and aerosol cans were recovered from his possession at the time of his arrest. The investigation also revealed that he had tricked the mosque imam into believing that he wanted to convert to Islam to gain easy access to the mosque.
